Hey All,

I really could use some advice. I have a brand new IMac 1TB of storage. I use about 500GB for applications and some data. My music collection is 500GB, my photos are about 1 GB, and my Movies are over 2.5 TB. Right now I have it set up so that all of my media (photos, music, movies) are on one 5TB external hard drive. I then bought another external HD to use for back up. As of now I am out of space on the back up drive. That is because i am also backing up my internal mac HD to that drive as well. I am looking for the best set up and willing to buy additional drives, but can't spend more than $300. My goal is to use the best backup software (timemachine, backblaze, carbon copy cloner) to ensure everything is backed up and I have room for media. I recently got errors from Time Machine because it is saying I am out of room. Backblaze gives me errors as well. Assuming I need an online solution (backblaze) as well as the best back up routine for external hard drives. What would be the best set up for this amount of data. I probably have a total with the internal mac data and my external data of 6TB. Trying to make sure I have everything organized and backed up properly. Currently use Seagate one touch 5TB external for my external storage and backup.

Please help!

Thanks
Matt

Buy a SEPARATE DRIVE to backup the internal drive on the iMac.

Now, backup the 5tb external drive to the backup drive you're using now (assuming that will have enough space).

I recommend that you use either CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper to CLONE the 5tb drive to its backup.
That way, the backup is always AN EXACT COPY of the source drive.
If the source drive were to fail, you could just switch over to the backup -- and then get another drive to serve as the "new backup".

BTW, I disagree with the suggestion to delete all the movies.
However, be selective on those you wish to keep.
I have some "hard to find" stuff that I wanted archival copies of.
What if the films you like suddenly "disappear" from online sources?

I can always find the film I like from a certain bittorent sites if I don't want to pay, or pay a local service shop (we have shops that sell movies ripped from bluray disks) for the exact title.
