So a decade or so I built up a sizeable MP3 collection made up of 400-ish albums and thousands of singles (primarily dance music, remixes etc). My iTunes library has around 25,000 tracks in total. When Spotify came out though I stopped adding to that collection as much and just streamed instead. It was easier than downloading and cataloging music myself; just click, click, and I'm listening.
When Apple said they were moving to a streaming service I was quite excited. I hadn't paid for Spotify as the free service was adequate for me. But thought of having not only access to Apple's huge library, but my own music too was too good not to try. Obviously I tried AM for the three free months, and it was a total let down. I cancelled before the first paid month was due.
My issues were that it was:
1. Incredibly slow. Would take ages to perform searches. Selecting an album would take an age to load. Just generally slow.
2. The iOS music app is just awful. There are absolutely no ways in which to sort playlists (i.e. by artist, track name, date added to playlist)
3. There doesn't seem to be much in the way of user created playlists like there is on Spotify. In Spotify you can search for example, "best tracks 2000" and there will be playlists created by normal users with reams and teams of music.
Anyway. Couple of days ago I renewed my AM subscription hoping the bugs would have been ironed out and the little missing features added. Nothing has changed!
Am I missing something? The obvious answer at the moment is to sack off AM and just subscribe to Spotify, but I hate the idea of giving up on an Apple product. I like everything to tie in with everything else. Spotify seems to do everything I want of it with the exception of having all my personal music, though I would imagine most of it is available on there. I would also have to move all my playlists over to Spotify as well which would take weeks!
