Apparently there is a third player in the whole iPhone trademark debate:

Toronto company had dibs on the iPhone

Hold the phone Apple. Get in line Cisco. When it comes to Canada, it turns out Comwave Telecom Inc. already has a claim on the iPhone brand name.

The Toronto-based company has been marketing a voice-over-Internet services under the registered trademark iPhone since 2004 and even has a wireless device called iPhone Mobile....

Since Apple hasn't announced any plans to bring the iPhone to Canada, the point is more-or-less moot for the time being. But yes, they'll have to work out something if they do eventually plan to offer it there.

Why not call it the ehPhone?

Eh?

Ok bad joke but I love my buddies to the North---afterall they brought us hockey...and the best maple syrup ever!
