Morning / Afternoon / Evening Everyone,

I'm very close to pulling the trigger on purchasing on the following MacPro for $3,639:
Two 3.0GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon (8-core)
2GB (2 x 1GB)
320GB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s
NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT 512MB (Two dual-link DVI)
Two 16x SuperDrives
AirPort Extreme card (Wi-Fi)
While I plan to upgrade the RAM and HD's I'm planning to use a 3rd party vendor visavis Apple (thanks to the excellent advice of other posters here!) and am curious if anyone has ever purchased from these guys before:
MEMORY AMERICA
27881 LA PAZ RD STE G180
LAGUNA NIGEL , CA 92677
(888) 861-0328
And while I have reviewed both the Buying RAM and Understanding Intel Mac RAM I am trying to verify Memory America's RAM is kosher. Specifically I am considering their 16GB special Apple Kit for $615.90 (16GB - 8 modules @ 2GB each - FULLY BUFFERED PC6400 DDR2 ECC (FB-DIMM) 800MHz) and would just like to make sure there's nothing I'm missing or overlooking.

That said, if you have any experince or insight please do share!

Thanks in advance,

Houstonian

PS> A search of "memory america" returned this thread however there seemed to be little discussion/confirmation as to the vendor in it. -H

For what it's worth, I'd get a Pioneer DVD±RW drive rather than buying the ones through Apple. The Apple-supplied units have custom firmware that slows down the drive's performance markedly to keep them quiet.

I installed a DVR-115 and the difference in burning and ripping speeds was substantial.

YOu can also reflash the included drive with non-crippled firmware, but that'll void the drive's warranty.

I posted a highly favorable review of Memory America years ago. However they have changed ownership and want to weasel out of the lifetime warranty. In the past if there was a problem, replacement memory was sent promptly and I used the packaging to return the other memory. When my memory died this week, I was told I needed to follow an RMA proceedure and it was very nit picky, including asking for the original invoice number, photographs (there is a label warning warranty void if removed. The bottom line is I would not purchase from them again. I have had problems twice before so it seems likely they ship memory that is not 100 % stable.
