I noticed the weirdest thing while browsing at Crucial's site for memory upgrades. The 8GB Dimms for the new Mac Mini i7 2.3GHz model is listed with the part number CT3650349. What's surprising is that the 8GB Dimms for the same mac mini equipped with the 2.6GHz CPU, are listed a different part number CT3650379!

Now, I refuse to believe that these two Mac Minis use different types of Dimms, they're just toying with us! I know the price is the same for both types of DIMMs, but they're just causing unnecessary confusion.

It's the same RAM. Different SKUs are just for sales analysis and forecasting.

I'm between Crucial's CT3327442 16GB at £75 and Corsair's CMSA16GX3M2A1333C9 16GB at £55 for my late 2012 Mac Mini.

The obvious choice would be Corsair however they seem to be rated at PC3-10600 instead of Crucial's (and Apple's) PC3-12800. What do you guys think? Is it worth it or should I play it safe and go with Crucial?

the corsair is 1333mhz speed the crucial is 1600 mhz speed. The mini can use the corsair but it is not the right spec.

the crucial is a bit faster. If the money is important the corsair should work. Of course the seller 's return policy matters. The seller could tell you the corsair is the wrong spec for the 2012 mac mini and not want to take it back.

Crucial it is then! Thank you for your immediate reply and advice.

Apparently I ordered 1333 mhz by mistake rather than the 1600 mhz for my 2012 mini. Just caught it recently in system info. Everything seems to work fine. Debating whether to just live with it or try to exchange it. Will this affect my applecare if it isn't spec memory? Thoughts?

Undersized 1333 in the 1600 max specced 2012 mini should work. I do not think apple would try to tell you it would effect your warranty. If you had 1866 or 2033 ram and had problems as you exceeded specs.

According to intel the cpu can handle 1333 or 1600 ram. I will look for the link.

here is the quad it is specced for both

Invoice, label, etc.

I ordered CT3650379 for my mac mini. The part number appeared only in invoice, not in the memory package or the memory stick itself. In the invoice, the material is CT2K8G3S160BM.000. The stick on the memory says: CT8G3S160BM.M16FED I think either of these is a real identification of the memory type. Would anyone ordered memory for different mac model please post these to see if they're actually the same thing.
