For my application, the Instrument shows that on average, my application uses around 3.5 Mb. Is it consider too much ? I cache a lot because of performance reason.

And i also heard that some application after running for a while will be slower and slower. Can memory consumption be one of the reason ?

Thanks.

according to "10 iPhone Memory Management Tips" from this site, which i found by googling "iphone memory":

The iPhone 3G has 128 MB of RAM, but at least half of it might be used by the OS; this might leave as little as 40 MB to your application… but remember: you will get memory warnings even if you only use 3 MB.

the following is from apple's official documentation:
1. The Virtual Memory System
2. Observing Low Memory Warnings
3. Using Memory Efficiently
4. Reducing Your Application’s Memory Footprint
5. Allocating Memory Wisely
