Hello,

I just got a new 2017 27" iMac and came stock with 8GB of Ram.. Looking to upgrade that to 16 or 32gb.. what is the best place right now to buy that memory?.. How can I find the correct one?..

Crucial memory is the best in my experience. Remember, buy a pair of DIMMs and it will add to what's in the iMac already as you've got 4 memory slots.

If you don't want to buy it at Amazon, use it for the Crucial part numbers.

Hi,

Does anyone know about ifixit as a source for iMac ram? They have 16GB memory modules for the iMac 2017 27" listed for $119.99 each. So, around $240 to add 32GB ram to my iMac. Crucial's cost is $361.99 and OWC is $348.99 so I am a little skeptical with the ifixit memory.

With my experience with iFixit (all good!), I think you can trust that they would sell you RAM that is compatible.
I think you should jump on that price...
Come back, if you can, to report that iFixit actually shipped to you at that price. I suspect that the site will update the price when you get ready to finalize the order. But, if not, then good price.

So, I reached out to IFixIt support and they validated that their memory is compatible with my iMac so I went ahead and ordered 2 16GB modules at $119.99 each. I received an email confirmation for the order. Keeping my fingers crossed that the memory ships at that price and that it works well with my new iMac. I'll report back once I hopefully receive the order and install it in my iMac.

One question...

Can I mix the stock memory modules with OWC memory modules... My imac has 2 slots free so I was thinking on getting just two 2 of 4gb each and with the 2 I have stock I would go up to 16gb

That will work but why not go with the 16gb you’ve already ordered and have 24gb and never worry about it again.

Just an update on the ifixit ram. I received my order yesterday. Installing the ram was simple and the memory seems to be working fine. So now I have 40GB of ram in my new iMac. $240 to add 32GB of ram to my iMac is a great deal!!! The memory is still available on ifixit for $119.99 for the 16 GB modules.
