yes its old but still works "ok" as a internet desktop :)
it has 4gb of Ram fitted and i have seen posts where people have 8gb
been looking for 2 x 4gb 800 memory but when you find them they are silly money :(
my question is if i put memory from a 2009 which has a faster bus will it work....i am sure i read that it will work but only at 800
hope you understand what i am getting at :)

No. RAM from the 2009 model iMac is not compatible with 2008. 2008 uses the (much) older DDR2, whilst 2009 uses the old DDR3. These are not compatible with each other as the pin arrangement is different.
