So I'm not hanging around for a new released Mac Pro, I'm going to pick up a new quad core during the sales next week, comes with 3 x 2gb sticks of ram.

The question is I want to upgrade this to either 12 (3x4) or 16 (4x4). To me more is better but there seems to be better performance with matched triple sticks than matched dual sticks, is this correct and any good links to it. If money permits and OWC sale is decent I'd go for 24(3x8) or 32(4x8) thanks for replies

I guess I should add i'll be mainly using lightroom4 with approx 40mb filesizes so not huge

There is no noticeable real-world performance speed difference in using 3 or 4 DIMMs on a Mac Pro. There aren't even major differences between dual channel 1066MHz and quad-channel 1600MHz.

Capacity is always more important if you can utilize it.
