Sorry if these are basic questions, but I have not upgraded memory in a Mac for a good few years.

Is the base memory likely to be 2 x 4GB or 1 x 8GB?
Do you need to have the same size memory in each slot or could you put max (32GB) in one slot leaving base in the other?

Or are these not known until we see the new Mini's in the wild?
 
Because it is dual channel memory Apple will probably install 2 SODIMMS for best performance. I've read where the performance gains are not huge, maybe a 10% increase in performance. You can probably install 32 GB in one slot and 4GB in the other, but I don't know if this will give you any dual channel performance increase.
