I have an intel 17in white plastic iMac currently installed with 1GB of ram. I have two questions:

1. I plan on purchasing ram from crucial.com I'm aware that 3GB is the limit for my model. Since I already have 1GB installed do I just need to purchase a 2GB memory stick? Or do I need to purchase a whole new 3GB package?

2. Will there be a noticeable speed increase upgrading to 3GB? I'm hoping to gain a little more speed with having multiple applications open at once.

Thanks
