I am running Mac OS X Version 10.6.8
2 GHs Intel Core 2 Duo Processor
Memory 2GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM

Today I went to open a file that was created in Word. Message I got was "There is not enough memory or disc space to convert this document.

The file is 20 KB.

I haven't had this problem before. I know the machine is getting old, but it does all I need. Probably a lot of things taking up memory, but I don't know if they are essential or not. Would be happy to find away of dumping stuff.

Other than buying a new computer - where should I go from here?

Tell us what model Mac you are running, but you probably can run 3-4 GB RAM. If so, that would go a LONG way to helping out that machine.

Also, I'm assuming you can upgrade those machines to at least Lion, so if so, you should do so once you get more RAM.

Problem occurs if you are running Office 2004 via the Rosetta emulator. You may well have to use the Office Removal tool and do an uninstall and use the activation code then update Office from the MS.

Regarding memory, you could install 2x2GB modules but it will only access 3GB maximum so the expense may not be worth the improvement. It is an old machine after all.
