I just bought a 1 GB stick from www.18004memory.com. It has nearly the exact serial number a on its chips as the one that was included in my iMac G5 Rev. B. They're also both from Samsung. I just booted up OS X and here's what I got.

I'm confused as to what the problem is here. Is the 1 gig stick you installed not showing up and you should be having 2.5 gigs total? Or is there something in the picture that I'm missing?

No, I just got really lucky and got the exact same brand of memory as my original stick. The new one also has the same timing as my stock chip. 1.5 GB is the correct total.
