Beware of Cheap Mac products, Cheap iPhone 3Gs will land you in jail....

I would be surprised if they got away with much, but who knows, it would be interesting to see if they stole any iPhones and if the stolen ones can even be activated. But in means of what they stole, I don't suspect much beyond the floor models, and what is on the shelves in store, I have always suspected that the boxes of Macs, iPods, and iPhones would be locked up tight in the back of the store, in some type of cage or something.

Yeah the iPhones were kept in the back under lock and key I think, they had to go in the back to get the 2 I purchased last Monday morning. They kept AirPort Expresses and other things on the floor along with accessories and Software. I'm sure most of the apple stores are set up similar as I have never been in any other one than this one in my hometown. Most of the display models are cabled down, but I think they are detachable and an alarm goes off if you detach them... SO maybe they got away with some of those.

It is kind of the height of absurdity, isn't it, when you can ram a car into a building, steal things from the building, drive away in sight of police officers, who shoot at you but fail to hit anything useful, and then get away, isn't it?

I'm pretty sure that after smashing your car through the front of the store, another alarm from disconnecting the display model isn't going to stop you.

I don't picture them getting away with much more than display models and maybe an armload of iPod cases and software.

Watch out for a flood of this stuff on eBay!

In my store, the display iPods, iPhones, MacBooks, and MBPs were all locked and tied town, but the MBAs only have some usb thing that sounds an alarm if detached. And back by the genius bar they have shelves with software, smaller Apple products (Airport and things), Cases, and other 3rd party items (hard drives and the sort). While whenever I see somebody get something big they go into the back out-of-site room to get it (computer, iPhone, iPod), and I always assumed that they were behind some big metal cage-like door or something that would be locked up tight, but who really knows.

There already is, and I don't think that they got away with all that much to make a big noticeable difference online or anything.

Good old Ohio.... This is my only :apple: store close enough to visit (1.5hr away) and somebody had to go and rob it. Stupid people... HAHA they probably saw the giant iPhone display and thought "OH that's a big'n, bet it'd fetch a purdy penny on that thurr internets!"

FWIW, after some of the service I have had at this store I have WANTED to drive my car through the front of the store also. Only difference is I would not have done it to steal anything. :)

How the heck did these people escape? Must be some lazy police men who stopped for donuts or somthing like that. Must be hard to keep track of a car that is damaged with bullet holes in the back!? I bet I could have caught them...

I missed the "n" in Men, I tried to edit it.
Mods a little help please?

LOL typo fail. =)

Officer Fires At Smash-&-Grab Suspect

COLUMBUS, Ohio – A Columbus police officer fired his weapon during an alleged smash-and-grab robbery at Easton Town Center.

NBC 4 has been on the scene since 1 a.m. Monday, and NBC 4's Tom Brockman was reporting from Morse Road because he said he and the crew were kicked off the property.

The situation started around 1 a.m. at Easton's Apple Store, Brockman said.

Several suspects wearing ski masks and hoodies shattered a glass door or window and started loading Apple Store merchandise into the trunk of a black Lexus, police said.

CPD arrived on the scene, and the suspects rammed the cruiser with the Lexus, according to officers.

An officer opened fire on a suspect, Brockman reported.

Here's where it stands: The vehicle and the suspects got away. Brockman was told the Lexus's right side was damaged and had Illinois license plates. If you have any information on the vehicle or suspects, you're encouraged to call CPD at 614-645-4545.

Isn't this a burglary and not a robbery?

I always thought robbery was taking something from a person through force or threat of force. Breaking into an unoccupied building and stealing product would be a burglary, wouldn't it?

You are correct in that robbery does involve having force of some sort, but through their ramming of the Lexus into the police cruiser, it can be said that they used force, but does it really matter all that much? It is just getting technical with the terms which practically mean the same thing and it doesn't change what happened.

If you were a police officer, would you actually _shoot_ at a car you know is full with Macs, iPods and so on? How cruel

Definitely understand that!!

A Lexus?? What kind of rich thieves are these?? To be able to trash such a nice vehicle... That in itself is sad :(
Surely the car had to be stolen too?

This is the apple store I always go to!
The pictures aren't very good.

The apple store is part of a outside mall. (For those who don't know)

Most police officers are the height of absurdity, so why does this surprise you?
