Hi all,

I'm writing an english assignment on the filmed versions of Shakespeare's HenryV by olivier and branagh, and recently bought the dvds. Anyway, my pc's dvd drive has decided to pack up so the only way i can watch it is on my iBook. I've been trying to rip it to a DivX/XviD file, but mencoder/dvdibbler have been causing me grief.

with mencoder, i can't get it to rip in anything other than 4:3 mode - even after playing with the crop settings, which is pretty crap since the movie's in 16:9. So i found DVDibbler. DVDibbler is just being full on weird. I've installed all the binaries for both mencoder + dvdibbler but it keeps getting stuck at one particular point:

Code:
% /Library/Application" Support/DVDibbler"/mencoder dvd://2 -dvd-device /Volumes/HENRY_V
-dvdangle 1
-vc ffmpeg12
-alang en
-chapter 1-20
-o ~/Desktop/HenryV.avi
-oac mp3lame
-lameopts br=112:vol=5:cbr:aq=5:mode=0 -ovc lavc
-lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4:vbitrate=800:keyint=132:vstrict=0
-vop scale=640:352 -sws 0

libdvdread: Couldn't find device name.
Reading disc structure, please wait...
There are 4 titles on this DVD.
There are 20 chapters in this DVD title.
There are 1 angles in this DVD title.
...and that's as far as it gets

i think the line that's at fault is:
Code:
libdvdread: Couldn't find device name.

I've had a look through the docs but can't see anything that indicates a cause/resolutino to my problem.

anyone out there with any tips or alternative software i should try?

Thanks,

MrJ
