Hi everyone, I posted in the Bug Thread a while back with this annoying bug. Still happening, and I'm curious if I'm the only one with the issue. Maybe with its own thread more of you might see it.

With 10.10, when I switch the active window to one on my other monitor (causing the other monitor's menu bar to focus/get darker), I get this icky menu bar icon repaint thing, shown here in a screen recording:

Anyone else seeing the same thing? Ideas for a fix? Unfortunately, this is still making moving between monitors a frustratingly noticeable thing for me :(

I see a little bit of crappy draw/re-draw of the menu bar when moving windows between monitors and the menu bar re-draws from active to inactive (dim) and back. Not nearly as bad as your video, but noticeable now that I'm looking at it.

Also seeing some re-draw errors related to Safari's transparency in the tool bars... it totally breaks and turns grey when moving a Safari window from one monitor to another... every now and again.

So yeah, in my experience, there are some UI rendering issues...

Definitely good to know that I'm not the only one with some weirdnesses in this area. I'm wondering if mine appears worse because I'm using dark mode. Have you tried observing this particular issue with that set on?

I'm seeing crappy redraw all over this crappy, laggy, choppy and slow operating system. It acts a bit like Windows 95, except Windows 95 was far more responsive.

I have this problem too and it is incredibly frustrating due to the lag it causes when switching screens.

Same here. If you're using dark mode, consider playing with the setting and seeing if it's better or worse with/without it.

A little harsh, no? I'm pondering submitting to the Bug Reporter this particular issue, but I bet it's already widely known...

Did a clean install and this obnoxious bug is still there... Sigh. Apple release a fix already!

Is this fixed in one of the 10.10.2 betas? If 10.10.2 doesn't fix it I will downgrade to Mavericks for sure. Having a 5 second lag each time I switch displays is a deal-breaker even if Yosemite looks aesthetically pleasing.

I've had this issue since I received my Retina iMac last year and have had a support case open since then, but have only just today isolated the issue to be able to articulate a possible root-cause (and hence finding this thread).

The issue appears to be exacerbated more by some menubar applications than others (1Password, Google Drive, Dropbox, WindowFlow) and I can only guess that it depends on how they display or redraw their icon.

I'm also suspicious that it is made worse by having one retina display (Retina iMac and LG 34UM95) and one traditional display causing the caching/drawing of the shaded vs active menubar to be completely redone each time.

I think you're definitely right about this. From a system frameworks perspective I would estimate that it has to with apps adding icons via NSStatusItem as opposed to system Menu extras, since the WiFi or Battery icons redraw far more subtly. Additionally, I can also confirm that I have an rMBP with a traditional display. I wonder when, if ever, we'll see a fix...?

Not sure if this is the same, but I'm seeing frequent re-drawing of menu bar items on Sierra, when I had seen this infrequently if at all on previous OS X versions. here's a video for your entertainment.

Wow, that's bizarre. I'm still on El Cap, but when I jump to Sierra sometime in the next 1-2 months I'll see if I notice this as well. Hopefully you can stand it :)

Is it the same as what you reported or something else? And I can't stand it. I'm trying to narrow down the list. It seems so far there are several that cause this to happen and some that seem stable. When I'm done, I'll try to post back with a list. The unstable ones definitely include some provided by Apple.

I was seeing more of a white square/flash redraw sort of thing (there's a link to a QT file in my original post from 2014), but maybe it's related? Hard to tell. What hardware are you seeing this on, and what display configuration??
