I use a MacBook Air, and was always pretty happy talking to Siri by double-clicking the Command Key or clicking the Siri button in the menu bar. I never use "Hey Siri" to talk to my Mac, because it activates my HomePods (not what I want). Now with 15.2, both actions default to "Type to Siri," and I have to find and click the microphone to change it to "Talk to Siri," a notable, annoying extra step, especially when double-clicking Cmd. I've searched, but is there anyway to change the default back to "Talk to Siri?" Or maybe there's some workaround somewhere for prioritizing which device answers my "Hey Siri?"

Thanks!

If you have the microphone icon on one of your function keys, you can press and hold that to speak to Siri. Otherwise, you can change/customize the keyboard shortcut so you can press and hold a different key.

As for prioritizing which device answers, it should be trying to figure out which device is closer to you and respond from that device. You could try speaking 'Hey Siri' quieter or lean into the Mac a bit.

Another workaround would be to set the Mac to listen for "'Siri' or 'Hey Siri’,” and the HomePods to listen for 'Hey Siri'. Then when you want to talk to the Mac, use the 'Siri' command so that the HomePods don't pick it up.

The first solution was legit! I didn’t know about the microphone key—thank you; It’s the F5 key on my air. I still think we should be able to set a default for the icon in the menu bar, but this works!

As far as the HomePods, I measured and they are about the same distance, right behind me. The HPs are so sensitive. But even if I lean in and quietly whisper “hey siri” to my Mac, the Mac gets it and brings up the talk to Siri box, but then it immediately disappears and my HomePods respond with a “hmm?”, waiting for me to say more. It’s almost like the Mac hands it over to the HomePods, or defers to them if they both receive it. Admittedly, I do have way too many devices sitting around me on my desk. Anyway, for the most part the microphone key solution solves it. Thanks again!
