I have read that the Merom chips actually run hotter than the current Yonah chips. If this is the case, then the C2D MBP that we are all waiting for will only have more heat issues than the current MBPs. Any thoughts on this??

These Merom threads are ridiculous already. Just buy your computer. The day Merom actually comes out, people will be waiting for the next thing to come around. Just buy it and enjoy it and stop worrying about what's next because there's always something next.

I'm sick of every thread being about it. Just search and you'll find tons of threads on it.

I just bought a MBP and I have no heat issues. Ran it at near full processor utilization and it topped out at 169F (76C). That's the same temperature that my iBook topped out at when I ran it on full processor utilization for several hours. Just buy it and be happy, the meroms I've heard are near the same heatwise.

i personally dont like all the merom threads, but the OP is really not asking (not explicitly anyway) advice on whether to wait or not (now if there's the word "wait" in the title, i'd sound much meaner)

i dont think the mbp burning people with various degree shouldn't be solely blamed on the chip and internal component.

mbp's casing is Al alloy, a metal alloy. metal and metal alloy are very good thermal conductor, which means thermal energy was very quickly transfered from the interior of the computer to your skin, which then you'll feel hot.. mind you, even 50 something deg. C is not a temperature you want to hold on to all the time, let along 70... esp considering metal has much higher heat capacity than, say air. if you have a hard time to picture this... think about in winter, if you hold a piece of wood, it's probably not too bad, but if you hold a piece of metal, it's gonna feel much colder, again, because metal has very high thermal conductivity, much more than wood...

this is why mbp Seems to be hotter than mb and other PC laptops that are made out of plastic

Here is the article that prompted me to ask this question:

http://dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=3840

It seems as if the macbook pros have more problems than the macbooks and definitely more than the imacs. Are all the common issues with the MBP due to overheating or are some of them MBP issues which are not necesarily temperature-related? I do not mean to start a "wait for merom" thread but I am concerned about all the problems MBP users are facing and am concerned that if overheating is the cause, then the new processor might make it even worse given the points stated in the aforementioned article.

Intel has stated "20% increase in performance without any increase in power usage" - Translated: It's the same temp, but runs faster.

Tom's hardware guide: The performance increase in the six different categories of the benchmark came in between 5.3% (office productivity, communication) and 25.8% (office productivity, data analysis). If we count in Merom's higher clock speed, then Yonah is actually slightly faster in the "communication" discipline. -article

PCWorld: The biggest performance increase over notebooks outfitted with same-speed Core Duo CPUs was only 7 percent, enough to shave a few seconds off of day-to-day operations but not much more. - article

Merom is an upgrade, but not a significant one. And ya, do not trust everything that intel says...;)

Just a tiny correction, the Core 2 Duo (Merom) does not run any faster than the Core Duo (Yonah) but it does more Instructions Per Cycle.
