Well since I decided to wait a while before i get my MBP, I will probably get one that has Merom. So what is it and how will it change the performance and stuff?

wonga1127 said:Yeah, they can address more RAM, but as others have said, there's no real point as that RAM would be more expensive than your laptop. 2GB SO-DIMMS are running about 1000 bucks right now, half of a stock 15" MBP. Why? Most people don't run THAT many apps, even then, 2 GB on dual channel is more than enough. To me the only reason to get a 64 bit system is to future proof your self because you never know where the tech world will be by the time you'd be replacing your comp.

Merom is the next version of the Core Duo processors. Apparently they offer around a 15-20 % speed increase, only really noticable to real number crunchers (mathematicians, scientists etc...). Day-to-day use is not that different. I also read somewhere that Audio processing performance of Merom is no different to Yonah, and video processing is only marginally better...
