I have a fairly large jpg I want to send to a friend with an iPhone by message app. They are not going to her. Is there a maximum size?

According to an Internet search it is 100MB but I don't know how true this is! The below is a response from MS Bing:

Certainly! When it comes to iMessage attachments, there is indeed a size limit. You can send attachments such as high-quality photos, full HD videos, or documents via iMessage. The maximum file attachment size for iMessages is 100 megabytes (MB)12. If your files are stored in iCloud Photos and exceed this limit, you can share them as an iCloud link, which the recipient can access. So, keep those attachments within the 100MB boundary, and you’ll be good to go! 📎📲

Thanks for your response. Something else must be causing the problem as my images are all in the 1.2 mb range.
Images are on my hard drive. I am sending from my Mac. As a test I sent the images to myself - they showed up on my Mac in messages but not my iPhone nor iPad.

Links in the internet chain between you and you friend may be stripping off the attachment, though 1.2MB does not sound large enough for that. In my experience, about 5MB is a good, general (self imposed) maximum limit and beyond about 10MB is in the "probably not going to make it" category.

The easy solution: upload it to free Dropbox or similar space, get a link to the file and email the link. They can then download the image from the link (even without installing/using Dropbox themselves). This will also work with your iPhone or iPad test too. If you use some other cloud space, you can likely do the same with just about any of them.

After you know they have it, delete it to free up the cloud space.

Thanks but I am sending images to my granddaughter who probably wouldn't bother clicking a link.
So, what I did was send it from my Mac to iPad with Airdrop. It was then in my iPad photos. The size was reduced from 1.3 mb to 377 kb. From there I could text it fine.
I did not like this extra step or reduced size but it worked. She can see the pix.

1.3 MB is definitely not anywhere near any maximum size. If you're sharing it from Photos on your phone, you should see an "Option" menu up top of the share sheet. Try "iCloud Link" and send that instead for a full-size photo.

I don't know. I haven't made any changes to my iPad but could not receive the 1.3 mb image when I sent it from my Mac by message.
