I am hoping Messages for Mac OS X gets a big overhaul at some point in the future. I recently heard an episode of accidental tech podcast where they were talking about thread counts on apps and how that generally means they are doing more in the background.

I looked at activity monitor and my Messages.app has over 240 threads active (second only to kernel_task at 263). My database is 60gb or so. Id love to get a big thread full of people posting their active number of threads and their DB size. Maybe there is some correlation?

Note - I am not talking about conversation threads, I am talking about CPU threads as found in Activity Monitor.

ny somewhere
messages is fine here. perhaps open 'about this mac', go to 'storage', 'manage'... and clean out some of the larger images? or close it occasionally, reopen it when you go to use it.

and, as always... reboot. anyway, just some ideas...

9 threads where? on this forum? versus how many macusers on catalina who are using messages without issue? or is there something else you're trying to tell us....
In the OP I asked specifically for people to post their app thread count. My messages is at 209. I watched it climb after a restart a couple days ago. Started out tame and then increased steadily.
