I do not want my iphone and Macbook Air (Big Sur) to be linked with Messages. Even though I've signed myself out of Messages on the Macbook, when I get an imessage on my phone I get this in the dock:

I cannot figure out how to make this stop, it's insane. Any help is much appreciated!
 
I think that your iPhone actually is the controlling element here. Go to Settings > Messages > Text Message Forwarding and you'll probably see your computer listed with the slider indicating 'on'. Turn it off, and I think that will end the annoyance.
 
Seems like the actual fix was going to General settings on the MacBook and at the bottom turning off the handoff between phone and computer. There are now multiple places that require toggles to stop being bombarded with notifications that carry over between devices via iMessage, iCloud, etc. I find it very confusing.
