Messages app screen goes BLACK when turning to landscape

Hello. On this iPhone 7, the screen randomly flashes black when rotating to landscape in the messages app. It goes off and turns on again once rapidly specifically in the messages app. It doesn't do it every time. Does anybody know what the problem is? I couldn't find any other instances of this issue on these forums or on the internet. iOS 10.2. Thank you!

Do you have a 3rd party keyboard installed? try removing it and see if you can reproduce the issue.

No 3rd party keyboard was ever installed on the phone.
