so i deleted this app awhile ago due to privacy concerns with a roommate, now living alone i could use again. but can't find to download anywhere!

how can i re-intall Messages?

i am on mtn lion.

It shouldn't but just in case - run a back up.

Check out pacifist, you may be able to pull out the app from the install image, but if its a different build, i.e., 10.8.4 vs. 10.8.3 it may not run.

will do.

only thing im worried about is downloading from the mac app store, will i ever get to see the actual .dmg file to try and use pacifist.

Before you run the install, save it somewhere else and then you can do what you need to do.

here is what i did in case anyone else needs help and finds this thread.

download your install dmg file from app store. will be in your /applications folder.

download a program called pacifist. (shareware)

load .dmg file into pacifist, and find the Messages.app, see picture below.

then right click on the Messages.app and 'install in default location', will take a couple minutes, profit.
