Hello,
I think iOS 13 broke something in Messages. Normally, when sending a message to another iPhone owner, the phone would first try to send it as an iMessage, but if that failed for any reason (like, no internet conectivity at the sending or receiving end), then it would send it as an SMS instead.
This is not working anymore.
My wife has no mobile data plan. Her phone connects to the internet via wi-fi only. If I try to send her a message, my phone will insist on making it an iMessage, and she will not receive it until she gets home, which can be hours later.
The only solution seems to be to disable iMessage altogether and to use SMS exclusively. But that's really annoying. The automatic switch between iMessage and SMS was one of the most interesting and appealing features of the iPhone.
Both my wife and I are on iOS 13.1.2.
Has anyone else noticed this? Is there any workaround, apart from turning off the iMessage feature?
Thank you.
