Messages icon in status bar?

Does anyone else have the messages icon in their status bar? There used to be a way to turn it off, but I don't see the option in the message's preferences.

This has been discussed in numerous threads before. If you do not see an option in Messages settings to turn it off, just drag it out of the menubar whilst holding the Command key. This trick works for rearranging all system-supplied menu extras.
