Messages in iCloud - tap to download

Hi, is there way to download all images from messages in icloud feature? Instead of pictures, all i can see are boxes with "tap to download" text, which has to be done one by one to download the image. But for threads like 5 years old with hundreds of pictures? I want them all on my phone..

Are you aware of how much space that takes? Its done intentionally so it does not waste gigs of space.

Sorry I'm an idiot but could you explain where you are seeing the pictures? I'm assuming when you open a message and press the "i" at the top right?
