Messages - Keyboard disappears when dictating messages

Hey all. I was hoping somebody could assist me with this issue. Over the last few days whenever I am dictating a text message I am not seeing the keyboard but instead of getting a voice level recording line across where the keyboard would be. I have posted a picture of what I’m getting. I have no idea how this started and I have no idea how to get rid of it. I want to get the keyboard back when I’m dictating text messages.

So if anybody has any suggestions on how to do that, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

After you are done dictating, the text should appear in the box and may even mostly match what you said. Then you can click in the box to summon the keyboard for edits or to add more to the message.

I have an iDevice one OS version behind current. When I click:

• the microphone to the right of the text box, keyboard stays on screen while it records what I'm saying.
• the microphone on the keyboard (left of spacebar), keyboard stays on screen while it records what I'm saying.
• the "Audio" option in the list of choices in the left of the message box (via clicking the + symbol), keyboard disappears while it records what I'm saying. If this is what you are triggering, I think that is to record actual audio and not convert audio to text. Use that when you want to send an audio recording to the other person.

Perhaps you should describe EXACTLY what you are clicking from the 3+ options that is triggering that appearance and what version of the OS you are using. If you are using latest OS and clicking either of those first 2 microphone options, perhaps that's a new way Apple wants recording to work or it's yet another bug that will hopefully be fixed soon.

Thanks, and sorry I wasn't clear. I am using the mic that is in the lower right hand corner of the iMessage screen -
I've attached a SS of what I am seeing. When I dictate using that mic I get the line in the picture above. I'm on 18.3.1 on my 16 Pro.

Mine doesn't behave like that. Did you by chance enable voice control? Check Settings > Accessibility > Voice Control and make sure it's turned off.

Same for me. To get the keyboard back, I need to tap on sound wave. But I have this behaviour with PT language. When I’m switching to French dictation, keyboard is there.
