So I found this thread and followed all the suggestions and nothing worked: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/imessage-notification-showing-phone-number.2272704/

I have five macs, I checked 3, and they are all doing this. All but one is running Big Sur.

Anybody have any idea how to fix it? Having the messages apps so I can send texts via my computer is literally the last reason I still use MacOS. So this bug is particularly annoying for me.

Thanks!

I tried that because I saw the 'first name' trick in the other thread, and still, only showing phone numbers.

If that doesn't work for you (it has for me every time I've tried it), then I'm honestly not sure. It's definitely an annoying bug, though, and I hope they fix it with the next macOS update.

So, I managed to get around this but its annoying.

Im in the UK by the way so numbers are +44 xxxxxxxxxx formatted.

I have to add the number in my contacts as that format and its fixed but not ideal (as usually a number would just start with a 0, i.e. 01212222222)

It has now created a fixed, workaround for the issue.

Log out off iCloud on the phone and Mac log back in the phone and than in the Mac and syncs them up again
