Messages on Mac showing old contacts

I'm hoping someone can help me with this.

Today I noticed something really odd - in the recipient list of my MacBook it's suggesting contacts I have deleted about a year ago who are no longer in my Contacts anywhere.

I find this strange as I've only had my MacBook since February so I'm presuming it's something to do with my contacts but I can't figure out what or how to fix it. Has anyone else had this issue?
