In iChat in <= 10.7, iChat was able to save transcripts in ~/Documents/iChats (or whatever folder I wanted). In 10.8 it seems to save them, but not into a directory where they are easily searchable and can be managed by the file system. Is this true? Or is there an option to enable the filesystem saving of transcripts somewhere that I'm simply not seeing?

Thanks folks.

Hello again, I'm giving this thread one quick 24+ hour bump...

If nobody responds, I'll see if I can work on a program that will bring this functionality to Messages in the next few months, and I'll update this post if and when that's done! (You might consider subscribing to this thread to be notified about updates here in the future)

Edit: Solution has been found, read post #4

They're still there.

They're just in ~/Library/Messages/Archive instead.

Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be an option to change the directory where the transcripts are saved. I previously had mine saved in a Dropbox folder for backup purposes.

You should be able to make a link between the transcripts folder and your Dropbox with the ln tool: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ln_(Unix)

Reply back if you need more specific directions on how to use ln ;)
