Clearly I'm not doing something right or I'm otherwise daft...

I have 10.8 installed and it's working. Messages through by Google account and via SMS/text message works fine.

Supposedly, if I'm not at my computer I should get messages sent to iMessage on my iPhone, correct? That doesn't seem to be working - messages sent from other iPhones show up on my Mac, but they aren't getting "forwarded" or replicated on my iPhone.

Am I missing something?

Do you mean Google/AIM messages? To my knowledge the only messages that will send to all iOS devices are those sent to your iCloud username. AIM/Google messages will only go to the Mac since messages on iOS devices don't support the 3rd party protocols.

You're not alone. Many folks (myself included) aren't seeing our messages sync yet.

Nope, I mean just my Messages via iOS or ML. I had this issue month ago when I tried to use messages on my iPad and iPhone - messages never showed up on my iPhone but did on my iPad.

Do you have the same email set up in your iMessages settings? Simply being connected to the same iCloud/iTunes account doesn't do it, you have to actually put in the email in each one.

I think I saw a post saying you need to sign out of iMessage on all you're devices then sign back in so they unify.

On my phone under Settings>iMessage>"You can be reached for messages at"

It just had my phone number, not my e-mail address (which I just added).

What is it supposed to look/work like? Duplicate messages on all devices? Messages on only the active device?

Settings on phone:

1) Be reached on your number + iCloud email/Apple ID (mine is the same but you can have different ones)
2) Start new convos from email used above

Settings on computer:

1) Use email from above, make active, sign into iCloud

Now all your messages are unified, including replies and read status. I'm on iOS6 so the start convos setting might not be there yet.

I still don't think they'll sync perfectly because sometimes they can be sent just to your number. If that is the case, you can't setup messages on your mac to receive at your number.

Not yet anyway... Apple are unifying your number and Apple ID with iOS 6 - surely that will fix that issue?

I agree that this may not work ( or be working ) as expected. If the other user is sending via phone number, I don't think the Mac will ever see it ( though the message is technically going via iMessage ( blue vs green )....

I'm not getting any synching of old messages, but if I send a new message it appears on my iPhone and my Mac.

Any ideas how to get existing iMessages on the application? Or does that just not happen?

are you seeing new messages on your mac that are sent to your phone number?

I can see messages that are sent from an iOS 6 Apple device to my phone number on my Macs + iPhone.

Nothing is in sync for me either. Very frustrating.

I just changed my caller-id in my messages app on my mac, and now i think new messages are at least working.

As far as I know there's no way yet to receive messages send to you Phone Number at your Mac or iPad. I was expecting that with ML, but seems that is not possible yet!

A solution is to receive iMessages on your iPhone sent to your e-mail/iCloud/iTunes account - > those messages sent you your e-mail will be sync across all your devices (Mac, iPad, iPhone)

So if you will like to start a new "conversation" instead of sending messages to a Phone Number do it, to the recipient's e-mail address (obviously, only if he/she has this function enabled on their iPhones {able to receive iMessages sent to their e-mail}) --- I know this sucks! but as always, most of the complaints against apple are resolved with - lest just wait for the next update (this also sucks)

---You can also set the caller Id on iMessage setting on your iPhone to your e-mail, so everyone someone reply a message it will be directed to you e-mail account; so I will sync with all your devices.

That's the only solutions - up to when a unified apple ID is issue

Everything is an has been working fine in regards to iMessage on my MBA and iMac + iPhone iOS6b3. Each device sends, receives and replicates fine.

My only problem is not being able to sign into iMessage on my iPad3 iOS6b3.

I did have problems for a while and my "account" in iMessage showed inactive.

I just turned it off on my phone and disabled it on the Mac and turned both back on. I then started receiving alerts on my phone that my computers were using my email for Facetime and iMessage.

I just realise that it works best if you add iCloud ID and phone number on iOS 6 but leave "start new convos" on the phone number. It now syncs all my messages across my iPhone iOS6, MBP ML and MP ML without problems. HTH.
