Pardon me if this is a dumb question, however, do you have to have an iPhone in order for Messages to work? I ask this because if you go into Settings->Messages, it asks for Caller ID.

Or am I incorrect and I can use Messages just with my iPad?

Yes, it works on any iOS 5 device. The caller ID is what the recipient will see when you message them. Set it to your email address.

Basically, what "caller ID" means is, it's how you are identified, or what the message recipient sees as the "who from".
