Messed up font smoothing / rendering

Hi guys, just a heads-up, if any of you rely heavily on Notes the way I do, DP2 might just screw that up for you.

I noticed that Apple messed up the font rendering / smoothing in Preview (PDFs look better/normal in Safari), but in DP2 they've changed the font smoothing in notes too.

What do you think?

The one on the left is DP1, and the one on the right is DP2.

They're supposed to be the SAME font.

It's not rendering the font accurately.
The font's supposed to be Myriad Pro (Regular), which is what it is on the left.

Plus it looks plain ugly imo (the one on the right)

Maybe apple is tweaking the preview to make it more visually appealing. I'm not quite sure of the problem, since its quite readable - just my $.02

There is a font cache somewhere under
/private/var/folders/

Find the directory corresponding to your user.
Log out, log in as admin.
Delete this directory
Restart / Log In again.

I got so disappointed I put Mavericks back,
but it's not a problem with any one particular font.

It doesn't render ANY font accurately.
And changing font smoothing in the command line doesn't seem to faze it either.

apple's always been about preserving the typeface

this misstep they just made (or just as well, a bug) destroys the typeface entirely... it's worse than cleartype

The caches stay intact as long as you don"t delete them.

reinstalled yosemite and applied update 1
fonts work fine now
it was probably a cache thing and now i know

It still appears like the same font — check the &, a, i and g — they are the same glyph shapes...

The screenshot on the left has been resized in Preview (look at the size of the window controls) to be smaller and thus looks different...

it doesn't exactly look like the same font
granted there are similarities, but the same thing that messed up that font is what messed up helvetica, arial and a dozen other fonts i tried

the window resizing is NOT the issue.
if it were, it'd be a quick fix and i wouldn't be asking for help, now would i?

If you really want to see the fonts get messed up, put a dark wallpaper up and drop down one of the menu bar menus. It is the transparency that is messing things up. You can go into Accessibility -> Display and check reduce transparency. See if this helps you some.

no, that's okay. it was the font cache.
there's no transparency in the notes app, except in the menu (and that always looked fine)

turns out i hadn't updated to 1.0

i did and the fonts got screwed up again
i purged the font cache and it's still messed up

any other suggestions?
