Hi

I'm not sure if I messed up and if so how to fix. I was trying to add a partition to an external HDD but in a woozy moment partitioned my HD instead? I might have added a volume ? At least that's what I believe happened. I'm not sure and I enclosed screenshots of the information I have available.

I share the Mac with my wife and we have different accounts on it with different sign- Screenshot 2020-05-17 at 17.51.51.png Screenshot 2020-05-17 at 17.52.03.png Screenshot 2020-05-17 at 17.53.11.png ins.

Can someone interpret what I've done and how to remedy please? I want to get back to my initial situation.

Catalina automatically splits the container into 2 volumes, the read only OS volume (Macintosh HD) and a read/write user data volume (Macintosh HD - Data).

Your posted pictures all look normal. What leads you to believe there is an issue?

You should see a single drive named “Macintosh HD” show up on your desktop.

Thank you Tax. I was distracted when I was doing this and when I looked it had shut down and the results were as above. It was the tow separate bit on being the "Other Volumes" bit ( the bit that was greyed out and says 648Gb) and the other a free bit of 460Gb that worried me. I thought maybe I'd added a volume. If you believe I haven't done anything then I'm delighted. Thank you for putting my mind at rest with your prompt help.
.
This is the information tab I get when I look at the HD so I'm assuming it's all fine Screenshot 2020-05-17 at 18.38.58.png

No problem. One thing that you can do to see this better is to turn on "Show All Devices" in DiskUtility:
