Hey, I was getting some dirt and grime on my macbook that wouldnt come off using rubbing alochol. So I remembered people saying use nail polish remover. What I didnt remember was the non-acetone part. So I scrubbed my palm rests with nail polish remover with acetone. Very very stupid. It took the finish off my macbook. What options do I have? Should I just look on ebay for a new macbook cover? or is there a paint I could use? What do you guys think i should do for my stupid mistake? :(

You should be hauled before the Apple Corp Courts to face abuse charges.

I think you should stand in the corner and think long and hard about what you have done. :D

Seriously though I would be crying now if I had done it. I feel your pain :( as for fixing/cleaning it, i would look for a new casing. Wouldnt really know where to start though. Personally I would call Apple and kindly ask if they would give you one. If not I would pay Apple for a new cover as Im a perfectionist and would not feel happy about getting one of ebay that is possibly already banged up. Thats just me though.

Would you post a picture so we can see what it looks like? Depending on the situation maybe if you call Apple and say that this happened with normal usage, they might replace it for free. if they ask you if you used any products say No...Otherwise you will have to pay to replace it...

Hi ya!

First of all: I'm Italian so please excuse my English :p

I'm completely new to Apple Macs, but as I was planning to migrate since very long, I finally found the money to buy myself a nice new MBP 17". You might think I'm crazy, I know, because the laptop I'm going to buy is a professional machine I don't really need (I'm a 22 years old common student ;) ) but this has been a dream to me for so long and I now wish it to become true (I guess many of you will understand me).

Anyhow, I'm completely new to Mac Os also, so you will probably read me very often asking for help on these pages :D

I'm planing to buy the machine around the 13th on November, but I have tremendous doubts: I'm afraid it is too soon. Look, I've been reading a lot about noisy fans, hot processors, flashing keyboards and much else and for old MBPs I don't want to buy a machine I need to send for repair after two weeks I received it because as I told you I'm looking forward to forget about PC's :D

So please, can you tell me if someone already experienced small problems with their new core duo 2 base MBP? I already had bad experience with my present laptop: It brooked after a month and I had to send it back to the assistance, I haven't seen it for weeks... Now it still has a quite noisy fan and the wifi is very week.

Can you give me some infos? Thx!!!

Hi Erasmus. You might want to use the search function to look for what you are after. You have actually posted in a relatively unrelated thread so you are unlikely to get a good response to your questions. If you cannot find what you are looking for via a search then by all means start a new thread of your own to get the best response. Welcome to MR. By the way your English is very good. :)

From what I've seen on this forum, the new C2D MBP's don't have any ogf those afflictions. But Stuartluff is right, do a forum search.

Thanks

Hi Guys,

I just want to thank you for answering so fast. In fact you are right, this was probably not the right place where to post but I have a very short experience on forums and you have so much choice here (which of course is very good). Anyway, I think I found the thread I was looking for at the first try so thanks a lot again.

Back to the problem at hand, if you do not find any other solution or have to wait until you find a cover, you could simply buy a Marware Protection Pack which would cover the wrist rest area if that is the only area affected.

Yes let's lie to Apple. They're a big faceless corporation who got rich on the broken backs of those they stepped on, so they deserve it.

Yes its their fault, after all what were they thinking about not releasing MBs with nuclear bomb proof casings. :D

I think its Apples fault. Call them and tell them you want your money back.
