Hi Guys,
I am embarrassed to even post this but i need help and its holiday weekend[no apple support].I just got my mini server from the refurb store and set it up. I guess i was excited and seem to have forgotten the exact username.I am pretty sure about the password. Now i can't login:(.

Is there a way to reset the server?I googled and found suggestions about trying to reset using the osx disk. My refurb server came with no such disc.Helpppp.

Is there a way to search for my server on my network.Does it appear with its username or its hostname?

What OS? What happens when you restart, is there a username there?

when i start the server i get this screen to enter my username and password.I can't seem to get my username right, i am wondering if there was a spelling mistake while setting up the server. This is frustrating.

is this a 2011 server?

if it is turn it off then boot it with your finger on the option key of your keyboard this should bring you 2 hdds to pick from pick the recovery one and it should let you get in. an other way is attach a lion hdd via usb or fw800 use the option key and pick the usb hdd to boot with.

you pretty much have locked yourself out the 2011 mini server is strict about sign in. I will post a screen shot of what you should get if you boot with the options key pressed.

yeah I thought that might happen.

so you get server and recovery on the screen below?

I could say try over and over and over and over and over and over. Or I could say attach a lion osx made on a 2011 mac mini like I have done below. then pick the osx and boot with it.

if you don't have a hdd with a 2011 mac mini lion osx on it . the osx must be from a 2011 mac mini.

pm me if you are in the usa. if you are over seas go to an apple store.

OK i got to the screen where i can open the disk utility by pressing the option+R keys..I see both the HDD's and then i see another disc " disc 2 MAC OSX base system.
I have options to erase ,restore,RAID and first aid. What do i do now.

Go to Terminal (it should be on the dropdown menu at the top), and then type:- ls -la /Users

That will tell you the username, and save you the effort of reinstalling.
