Messed up my Steam game save any way to restore?

I went back to an earlier save in Portal 2 in order to show someone. Now, my most recent game state is gone. I guess autosave doesn't create a save state that can be found from the load menu. Any way for me to get it back? Or do I just need to play through again?

Hmm, I once had my saves reset when I turned off steam cloud. Once I turned it back on they were all back. Not sure if this is even the issue.
