Meta data app for itunes?? help?

So I'm trying to find a faster way to edit Meta Data of movies in my itunes. i.e. the picture and info of each of my files.

Found a great app metax but for some reason it will only allow you to change the meta data of an itunes library that is in it's standard location. I have a 2 tb drive with my library due to the 500Gb in movie files. (hence the need for a faster way to edit meta data)

Anybody know a good software for this or maybe know how I could or why I can't get metax to edit the tags for my library?

Are you trying to edit the files over the network? If so I found it very slow also if that is what you are trying to do.

No directly from my iMac to a 2tb drive that is plugged in via firewire. I could spend hours and I have time on my days off. It would just be nice to have a faster way.

Metax is awesome except for the fact that i HAVE to put my itunes library in my music folder and it's just to big,

I have found if the hard drive is not the internal one, the speed is slow. I have tried to do it over the network and one that is connected via usb (sorry no firewire, that is for my backups, non-media related) so I can't speak for it. But it has been slow for me. From what I have been seeing, it basically builds a new version of the file with the info in it hence the reason it is slow over the network or to attached hd.... Don't know what else to tell you.

Maybe someone else can jump in if they have a better solution. Or what you could do, is que up several movies at a time and then hit the start button and go to bed. Have it work while you are asleep and at work/school etc.

I'm not sure what you mean by needing to have the movie files in your Music folder. I can drag a movie file from anywhere on my Mac onto MetaX and it immediately starts listing matches.

I miss read his post... that is correct, it pulls the info fast for me too. But if I write over the network it is slow.....

Reason it is slow going over your network is because MetaX is actually creating a copy of the file, so it could be a 1GB file being duplicated across your network with the MetaX data written to it too. Of course, it deletes the original once the tagging is complete.

Kilamite is probably correct. Go into prefs > File and turn off "Put originals in Trash". Worth testing on one file. Here is the message of what it does.

your missing my issue altogether. it's not that the file is being written slow. Everytime they finish in about 30sec and say that they were written but they don't every actually get written I go to look in my itunes and nothing has happened. So am i doing something wrong does it moo and then i'm supposed to let it sit there for another hour or more (usually 4g files or larger.)?

You have the files already in iTunes then tag them? If that is the case, you need to remove them from your iTunes Library then re-add them so iTunes reads the metadata.

Order to do things:

Rip/Convert --> Tag --> iTunes.

Itunes/MetaX

You do not have to re-add items in your library, you only need to force iTunes to take another look at the meta data inside the file. In iTunes, right-click the file that you have updated and click 'get info'. DO NOTHING to the properties of the file and click ok. iTunes will re-read the meta and change tags accordingly.


Also, in regards to having to have all of your content in your music folder, that is not necessarily true. In iTunes, go to PREFS>ADVANCED and un-check 'keep iTunes Music folder organized' and 'Copy files to Itunes Music folder when adding to library'.
