I like what Meta X can do but lately I can't do anything because it "unexpectedly quits" even though now I know to expect it. Also it seems to take a long time if it doesn't quit.

Any alternatives?

Thanks

MetaX works great. You probably have a corrupted "MetaXArchive.data" file. Delete it. /users/Library/Application Support/MetaX

I am having the same problems with MacTheRipper. It now consistently crashes after startup. Reinstalling does not help.

I don't think there's anything "wrong" with MTR. And I know there's nothing "wrong" with MetaX.

If you figure out what's up with your OS, please let me know, as I will for you, since our shared problem is not application-bound.

He gave the location wrong ...

Should be in ~/Library/Application\ Support/MetaX/

Aka the Library folder in your user directory.

Thanks. That did it!

(Well, it would if MetaX had been my problem, but I see nothing with anything like MTR or MacTheRipper in this directory)

Rodney Kerstetter just informed us on our irc channel that a new MetaX is out that supports tagging > 4 GB 64 bit mp4 files ! Check it out.

Love meta x and have never had a single problem...until now. I downloaded 2.3.5 and the first dvd I tried won't tag, it just crashes. I have removed the file from the library as suggested above and reinstalled...that did nothing. I had to go back to 2.3.0 because I can't seem to find 2.3.4.8 or whatever my last version was anywhere to dl.
:(

Have you looked in the preference folder for "com.mtr3.plist" ?

~/Library/Preferences/com.mtr3.plist

I have more problems with handbrake crashing... nothings peeves me more than queueing up 5 movies to encode before I go to bed and wake up to find that it "unexpectedly shutdown" before it finished the first one. It is going to take me months to encode all my DVD's at this rate.

Next time it crashes, save the log file and head to the HB forum for help.

Are you running it on 10.4.7 or 10.5.2?

My MetaX just updated today to now support vids over 4GB. Now it's crashing like crazy. Used it many times now there seems to be something wrong.

Right after I donated too.

Oops I spoke too soon. Already updated. "Fixed crash bug when not using large file support"

He did say "Added support for files >4GB (experimental)" so ymmv.

I'd stick with the previous one for now.

Naw, it's cool to try...the problem was that if you didn't have large file support enabled it would crash on regular "small" dvds...we emailed back and forth and he promptly fixed it.

When you said Handbrake+metax=appletv heaven, you weren't kidding...this is sweet.

OK, if I understand MetaX correctly, once I apply the info to a movie generated with HB092's Apple TV preset and write the file, that information should show up on my Apple TV? This does not seem to be occurring, even though I've forced a sync to my ATV from iTunes and have reset the ATV using the Menu and '-' buttons.

Ok well I installed the update and I think that has fixed the crashing issue. Nice to see the developer(s) quickly solved the problem that must have been caused by a recent update.

Now that I have it working. Anyone have any tips for working with Apple TV movies?

Yes it works for me. I know you said you reset the apple tv but is the info showing up in iTunes first? Are you accidentally looking at the old version of the movie in iTunes? By that I mean, once it is written you need to drop it in iTunes or let metaX do that. Then that's it, maybe you have to sync, but it will show up on apple tv.

One thing about this new version of metax is that it will moo even if that preference is turned off, as well as one time it completely froze my machine and all my movies on the external disappeared...they were there after a restart with the power button. Also, the preset area for tv shows is not working correctly now...I can't make a new preset or it just disappears.

The only tip I have is I find using handbrake and metax easier using Spaces. Also if you utilize the IMDB browser you will get much better, shorter synopsis instead of those pretentious, over written amazon reviews.

Here is a good site for tv show info too:
