I just ran software update to get the combo-drive update for slot-loading drives. I was shocked to find that the software window is metal.

See attached. I guess Panther might be metal all around!

Finally! Apple has gone badass on their own interface. It's about time.

Aqua is slow and boring. and I'm not talking about the movie "Hours". My math teacher saw some of it and slept through the rest.

Have you checked out the MacRumors OS X theme? Pinstriped, but plain.

Plus the metal has a more modern look, which is what I want in a theme.

I don't want MS DOS unless I'm using MS DOS.

Kershman, are you sure you didn't just edit a few nib files. Apple didn't do that.

Yeah, but I'm a geek, so metallifizer doesn't count in my book. And if you know where to find SU then you probably know about nibs.

This are the real thing

I DID NOT mess with these what-so-ever. They are the windows that came up from the Comba-Drive update. All I did was use Grab to capture the screens and then drag them into iPhoto to export as JPGs so they would be small enough to post (originals were rather large TIFFs).

I am sure I have not been the only one to get these. Anyone that has needed to install the slot-loading combo drive update should have seen this.

I wouldn't be suprised if the textured/non-textured option is represented by a 1-bit toggle in the nib file. If so, it might have been miswritten causing your windows to appear as they do. But I really doubt Apple metalifized SU. We'll see, though, what other people have experienced since I don't have a combo drive.

The firmware software button/text/picture placement seems a bit weird.
They look too seperated.

What? Are you insinuating that this is a photoshop?!?:p :D :)

Re: This are the real thing

I did the slot/combo update as well. While my software update was still aqua, the updater was indeed metal. I took screenshots, though I don't have anywhere to host them at the moment.

You can attach them to your posts. :)

SWU vs. FWU

Remember there is a difference between the software and the firmware update. Updating your firmware may just launch another metalized app interface that steps you through the firmware update.

If the software update window was updated, it would have to have been in x.2.6, and I have not seen it on my computer, nor any of the other computers that I work with. But I will check with my friend. He is in charge of a Apple lab.

Just my 2¢.

Didn't realize I could attach them.. should pay more attention to the post reply page I guess. :)

Anyway, here's my software update..

Well, [c]hitman, just make sure you eat your Special K cereal in the morning. :D

If in fact you did not install a metal theme on your computer, then that is the true pic.

But guess what? Apple has been leaning towards the metal interface since iTunes 1 and even Quicktime. And since Apple's apps have completely spanned the horizon of a metallic theme, their interface may do the same.

I take it that there's a dead horse around the corner anyways.

You speakin' to me?

I'm afraid I don't know who this [c]hitman, or hitman, as it were, is. Can you please include some more detail? ;) :D :D :D

Get bent Queenie ;) :p :D

I don't mind it too much, but I wish the metal wasn't as harsh. Aqua is easier on the eyes.

I dislike Brushed MEtal and Aqua

I hate the brushed metal look, thats why i edited my nib files:) i also dislike the aqua look to.... and i gota skin for itunes since the nib doesent change that
