Hi guys,

This result is crazy! How can the A14 be as fast as the A12z with half the amount of graphic cores:

Is Apple doing something to use the Neural Engine cores to speed things up?

Also, its the first 3.0 GHz ARM chip (please correct me if I'm wrong).

Wow. If those are real results that is crazy and not what Apple engineers lead us to believe (that the A12Z would still be better for graphical-heavy workflows). This has to mean that an A14X iPad Pro is coming 1st quarter 2021.

The A14 is really a beast.

Also, scaling the number of GPU cores 4-8X (for the AS Macs) really will mean comparable performance to AMD/NVIDIA...

Metal score ≠ graphics performance

Apple claims a 30% graphics performance improvement for A14 over A12.

These are really amazing graphics scores, but realistically can the A14/A12z render games to the same level as a PS4 or Xbox One? Would I be able to play Cod modern warfare 2019 with the same experience?

Yes, one core, but not the entire chip, right?

Correct, but we don't know if Apple runs their small cores at the same speed of the big ones. Can't wait to see if they not only reached 3ghz but also a much higher sustained performance.

The PS4 and Xbox One are severely outdated hardware already as is.

PS4 Pro and Xbox One X have graphics capabilities roughly equivalent to a RX 570/580, respectively, which have Metal scores of 40,000 and 45,000, respectively. So quite far off based on Geekbench Metal benchmarks.

yes definitely outdated GPU similar to AMD 7870 from 2013, but look at how games perform on them (base PS4 and xbone) even today, like Red dead redemption 2, cod modern warfare 2019, horizon zero dawn, the Witcher 3 etc. The games look stunning with great performance, yet Apple like to boast about having console quality games on iPhones/iPads yet there are none that can match the performance and experience from the consoles.

Yeah, while I suppose comparing benchmarks of differing platforms gives an idea of where companies stand in terms of hardware development it doesn’t make sense to me when some get so caught up in it. At the end of the day it doesn’t mean Jack to me if Apple silicon is faster than Qualcomm for example if I want a device running Android, or faster than an Xbox if I want to use Gamepass etc. I do appreciate the continuing development for what it brings though, and agree with the sentiment that there needs to be more software on iOS that takes advantage of the power of these devices.

Completely agree.

I would even go as far as saying that I haven’t seen a game on my Ipad Pro 11 that even matched or beat my antique Xbox360.

I don’t know what it is exactly. I feel my ipad heat up immensly if I play a graphic intensive game, so I think it might be thermal throttling. Having such a thin body with no active cooling, there is no way an Ipad will even approach a previous gen console because of the heat.

I know in benchmarks, the A12X/Z is supposed to be XboxOne level performance, but what games have shown it in practice?
