I've been using MetaX for 3 or 4 months now, and have had real problems with it fetching data for new releases. This dates back to GI Joe, Star Trek, District 9, etc. I can understand a short time after the release without being able to do this, but even now, many months later, metaX still does not find the tags for these films.

The thing that finally made me post here is that i went to tagchimp.com, and actually found ALL of them on the site. Does anyone else have this problem?

Are you running the Windows version or the Mac Version? I have started running the Windows version on my Mac via a virtual machine because the Mac version is not being updated and doesn't seem to get data from either Amazon or TagChimp.

amazon changed the access rights to their content and as such MetaX for mac no longer is able to pull data from amazon.

development for the mac version of metax seems to have ceased and the developer doesn't even bother replying to support emails any more (that tells its own story really).

metax for mac was too buggy in its current version and i stopped using it completely and moved over to using Subler.

Thanks for the info guys, I was having the exact same problems with metax. It's a shame, it's a perfect program too

I'll try out subler

i've used subler for subtitles, which worked great. I know you can edit metadata with it, but does it fetch too? I guess i can just go see for myself...

Subler is brilliant, just what I needed. It doesn't fetch, but my main problem was getting applications Inc. iTunes to tag files over 4gb. Subler does this with no probs, even letting me add the artwork to the large files.

It also let's u add the HD icon in iTunes which is cool. I will definetly donate

You're not going to see movies/TV from Tagchimp that were added after February 2009, thus none of the recent films. Here what was posted on the Tagchimp forums back in September:

"There are quite a few of you that are wondering why your movies aren't being added to tagChimp. Well, it's because you're a MetaX Mac user, aren't you? HUGE updates were made to tagChimp back in February that required new ways to interact with the tagChimp API. To help clean up new submissions, new guidelines were implemented. If a program didn't meet those guidelines the submissions were rejected. Unfortunately, MetaX Mac doesn't meet those guidelines. It should when a new version is released. I apologize for the inconvenience and misery this has caused you, but it really is for a good reason. I'm a MetaX Mac user too."

Unfortunately, as the developer is no longer supporting the mac version, a new version is unlikely.

I like MetaX as well and continue to use it to tag any of the older stuff that I add to my media library but for anything newer, I'd suggest giving Vidalin a try. Not nearly as robust as MetaX but very easy to use, only adds tags for info that can be displayed on the Apple TV, and also has a lookup feature.

2 things:

1. If you head over to the MetaX's developer site you will see that he is actively working on a new version for the Mac and is being re-written from the ground up - although that was posted back in July :)

2. The latest SVN version of Subler includes Tagchimp searching.

i've seen that, but didn't think it applied to fetching data - only uploading new tags from MetaX to TagChimp... maybe i'm misinterpreting, though...

has anyone tried Metaz?

Just tried it and I'm not impressed at all it doesn't fetch anything at all and doesn't let you put just the year for the date. And it looks like Metax but with stuff taken out. I just wish someone would fix the fetching on Metax, I would pay for a version that has that.

For myself MetaX works perfectly fine still. I have it set to grab the data from TagChimp and it fills in most of the fields. Even on a new DVD release (Spice and Wolf released on 12/22/09). The only time i have problems is when it is a brand new movie just released. I think that is due to the fact that it is brand new. But for the most part i rarely have to input my own data.

Great app for taggers.

Arg.

My iFlicks’ trial just expired. There’s no way I’m paying almost $30 for it since I only use it as a tagger. $15 USD would have been more than enough.

Anyone know of any other taggers that use thetvdb?

Wow, iflicks looks awesome. As frustrated as I am with this tagging business, I might end up paying $30 for it. Assuming it works well, of course.

WOW.

test driving iFlicks now, and it is SO nice. In the ten minutes i've been playing, it got ALL of the metadata for the movies i was missing earlier, was completely automated, and accurate.

AND it didn't kill any of the videos.

what a breath of fresh air; It's everything i wanted MetaX to be. I think i'm actually looking forward to re-tagging everything with this. I'll definitely be purchasing if it continues to perform like this during the trial.

I see your point based on the forum comment but since I haven't been able to fetch any of the newer films that do appear on the tagchimp website, I figured it went both ways.

iFlicks is great. I rip my TV Show DVDs using Handbrake in the "Show.Season.Episode” format (Friends.S01.E01.m4v) and it automatically pulls data from thetvdb.com.

You can also set up rules that automatically replace fetched artwork with custom artwork (I like getvideoartwork.com’s artwork) and strip out certain fetched data (for example, I don’t want the ‘network’ field).

It just doesn’t do chapters, yet. And instead of scraping IMDB or TagChimp, it uses http://www.themoviedb.org/, which is not always as accurate.

$28 is a little too much for it though. Apparently, it was on sale for $15 at mupromo.com the other day and I missed it.

iDentify is free and uses thetvdb.com, but it’s just a fetcher. You can’t correct fetched tags with it.

i m havibg the same problem and its monthly subscription is outrageus... i m getting annoyed with this.. they are not viewing any latest movies

I downloaded the trial of iFlicks. Looks great. But it changed my movie.m4v to movie.mov. Does it matter?

For iTunes and Apple product purposes, no. However, devices like the PS3 hate the .MOV container and may not be able to play it.

It's easier to write metadata to a .MOV container than a .M4V container. That's why iFlicks does it.

I think the developer said he was working on native .M4V writing like MetaX.
