Hi all,

I recently posted about my mini disc stuck in my drive. Does anyone have any links/suggestions/ways to get it out before I open up the iMac?

Once it is open and I have the drive out...is it likely that I'll be able to take out the cd without damaging the drive?

Thanks for all you help!

It seems like alot of people have good luck by just holding the system with the drive opening pointing down and gently shaking it to see if the disk will fall out.

If that fails, I would proceed with caution using a pair of tweezers.

If all else fails, I have heard of people using a thin piece of plastic with tape wrapped around it (sticky side out) in order to try to grab ahold of the disk. Just be careful that the tape doesn't come off inside the drive and make things worse.

I am not sure physically removing the drive will help much, except that it might make it easier to position the drive to take a look...

Of course make sure you are careful probing around in there, but you should be able to get it to come out...

Many CD/DVD drives have a small hole that allows a paper-clip end to be pushed in to release the disc that is in it. For the Mini, you'll have to open up the case to get to the drive and look for that little hole. It should be on the front side of it, where the slot for putting in a disc is. This goes without saying, but make sure that everything is unplugged and take heed that if you damage anything while the casing is opened, it voids the warranty.

Have you tried restarting, then holding the mouse button down until the disc ejects?

Besides restarting with the mouse button held down (previously mentioned), I have also had luck going into Disk Utility and ejecting the disc from there.

I've tried the paper clip, and I cannot eject it using "software" because this is strictly a hardware-related issue. The computer doesn't know the CD is in...it's in there though. So then, if i cannot get it out using the prescribed methods, i probably have to get a new (UGH) one? (70 bucks :S) Or, my thought was to actually take the drive out and open it to get the cd out and then reassemble it...

Throw your computer out the window.

:D

I saw a guy on some TV show, with a computer problem.

He 'solved' it with a Barretts 50 calibre rifle!:eek:

Here are a couple of 'troubleshooters'! :D
