I bought my iPhone 15 from metro because I got a 200 dlls discount from switching from cricket all good and everything but on my old iphone it was unlocked because I had two sim one american and one mexican. I fully purchased this phone from metro and is locked for 6 months and i need it unlocked for traveling. Could I go to an Apple store and say that my phone does not "work" and get an unlocked version of them? I do not like doing this kind of stuff but I guess its worth a try.

If apple replaces your device you will get the exact same configuration. You have to ask you carrier and check their policy.
The carrier has to put your IMEI in to the DB provided by apple. After that when you put in a sim from another carrier and it contacts apples server it will be unlocked.

A few carriers will unlock it earlier if you ask nicely and say that you will use it outside of the locked region. But there is guarantee.
