I feel a bit silly right now typing this i want to say what is the mic for ...obviously for speaking into .

Though i havent heard anyone talk about it , is there a certain app where you can record your voice ?

There are several types of apps that can use the microphone.

a few examples:

1. Shazaam (sp?) - Uses microphone to locate info on the song playing on radio or other external sources.
2. Voice Notes
3. A few games that you can blow into the microphone to cause an action to take place.

I haven't downloaded a recording app, but I'm wondering if my Mikey microphone from Blue FiRe will work on the iPad.

It works fine on the iPhone, though it's not officially supported, so I wonder it will work on the iPad, as well.

The Blue Mikey does not work with the iPad. You get an incompatibility message when you plug it in and it won't power it. A bit of a bummer as it works great for recording on the iPhone.

I'm pretty sure with a firmware update, it will be compatible.

I downloaded a free sound recorder app and tried the mic yesterday. The mic records with unbelievable high quality.

In the limited testing I've done with the iPad, it seems like the microphone is a lot better than the iPhone. So why isn't there a built-in recorder? The nice thing about the recorder on the iPhone is that it runs in the background while in use. This is handy for recording lectures, but would be more useful on the iPad because the microphone picks up the sound better and you could also take notes. Maybe we'll see that it doesn't matter in a multitasking announcement tomorrow, or sound recorder for iPad, but until then, it sucks!

The NEW Blue Mikey does NOT work with the Ipad

Despite hopes voiced in the reviews I have read, I heard from the horse's mouth that it is NOT compatible. Too bad the Yeti is so big. I was hoping for something that would both connect to the IPad AND give me a new connector (so that you do not have to remove the mic to charge, etc.)

>>>Hello Paul,

(Side Topic)
I use the Samson Go Mic..clips right on the top of the iPad and has a headphones connector for instant feedback. Still need to remove it to charge, but at least it's smaller than the Yeti.

The mic is useful for Skype, but I find you need to speak into the top of the iPad otherwise people complain they can't hear me. *sigh*
