mic quality on headphones

How is everyone's experience so far with the mic quality on the headphones? When I'm using the built in microphone I can usually hear myself for some reason and my voice is muffled and distant, almost like I'm speaking into a tin can. Callers on the other end continually tell me that they are having trouble hearing me.

Is anyone else getting this or do I just have a bad pair of headphones?

My wife has said many times that I sound staticy whenever I use the earbud's mic. But whenever I switch to the internal mic it is clear.

When I first got the iPhone, I asked how the quality was on both the headphone and internal mic. They said the internal was the most clear with the headphone mic in second.

I'm just guessing that the mic hole on the headphone would twist and turn backwards where it wouldn't become as clear had the mic hole been directly pointed towards my mouth.
