ive got a mate who has quite a bit of knowledge about, is it Access? (microsoft database thingy). he is a student and wants to build me a database for me, as part of his coursework. he is all pc'd up and we run panther. Office for mac dont include this program. does anyone know this program and if it will work. or what we will have to do etc...
Any help appreciated

Only with Virtual PC. When people debate that there is other alternatives to Microsoft Office, they only seem to focus on Word Processing, Spreadsheets, and Presentation programs. There is no compatiable Microsoft Access program on the Mac. Microsoft hinted at MacWorld that they plan to offer another Mac Office product after Office 2004, perhaps they will get it right and include Access that is file compatiable with Windows.

FileMaker Pro is better, easier to use, and runs on both Mac and PC. It will export a variety of formats, but not the access format. It should export as something that access can import though--and vice versa.

I don't like Access because stupid Microsoft keeps changing the file format every time they release a new version AND they make it such that the new Access can't use the old files

Well if they didn't do that, why would you ever buy the new version? DUH! :)

Does virtual pc work well?

Would file maker integrate with an invoice producing program )none in mind at mo)?

Like JFreak suggests, using MySQL or something similar would be far easier to integrate with other programs (assuming that other program supports SQL statements) than Access or FileMaker.
