Hello,

For a few weeks now, I have been getting what I guess
is called a Notification (small window appears on the upper right of desktop)
saying:

"Microsoft auto update
Updates are ready to install" "Update Later / Restart Apps"

But this is a Mac.

What is MS trying to update ?
Why ?
Legitimate ?

Thanks,
Bob

I have a 12 month subscription to Office 365. When that's up in late September I intent to not renew and go through the Mac App Store instead.
I think the updates to Office are handled through Apple updates instead of Microsoft, which I think will be less obtrusive.

Hi,

I'll add a bit more on my updating experience.

After, presumably, doing the update, I could not open up either Excel or WORD.
Tried everything; multiple re-starts, etc.

Just wouldn't open either of them, or any documents or spreadsheets previously created by them..

Everything else worked.

Finally got them to work after going to the main Microsoft Office site, in which an
option for the update appeared, which I did (again presumably).

A real horror experience; spent over 2 hrs on it.

Don't they check how well their updating and updating system protocols actually
work ? O.K. now, I think/hope.

Thanks for help and suggestions.
If any thoughts on, please let me know,

Regards,
Bob

Bad updates can happen for reasons outside of the developer's control, such as a crappy internet connection. I have to test Microsoft's Mac updates on a monthly basis, which is their release cycle. They always work for me.
