Hi guys,

I am looking to purchase the new Flight Simulator 2020 for my iMac via bootcamp, however I am unsure on wether my iMac will run it.

My specs:
iMac 21.5 Early 2019
Intel Core i7 8700
32GB Ram
Vega 20 Graphics
1TB SSD

I have been trying to find this out for ages, but nobody seems to have any info on wether the Vega 20 will run it or not.

Thanks Ashley :)

So I haven't tried at all, but looking at the minimum system requirements published, I'd say the Vega 20 can just about do it if you don't have too high expectations. I mean you're not gonna be running at 4K :)

But I don't know what platforms the game can be gotten on; If it's a Steam title, you can always buy it, try how it runs and get it returned and refunded if it doesn't run as well as you want

That’s an idea, never through of that. Thanks :)

I just ran the beta on my 2019 i9 iMac with a Vega 48. Running it at medium graphics and settings the fans were blasting at full speed. The frame rates seem decent but I not sure of the FPS. It did not look like the trailers I have seen. I was very disappointed with the clouds. I not sure If I jumping on board yet.

I'll probably buy it on Steam and test it out on my mac, thinking about building a windows computer in the near future anyway.

Very scary using a Mac & Bootcamp.....

Does anyone know if FS2020 will allow the program to be switched from one machine to another ?

PREFERENCE #1:
I wanted to first try using my 16" MBP w/ 27" TB display with Bootcamp running Windows 10 Pro.

LAST PREFERENCE:
Dell 8th gen Intel i5 w/ 16GB RAM and Radeon 5500 and 32" curved display.

If the Mac has thermal shutdowns, can I move the licensing from the Bootcamp Mac to my Dell desktop PC without having to pay $120 again ????

Does it mean you were unsuccessful to play MSFS20 on Macbook 16 because of shutdowns?

I do not have the beta version - I am waiting for the full release on August 18.

What I wanted to know is that if FS2020 ran terribly on the 16" MPB, can I switch it over to the PC ?

Or is the software once installed, that's it ???

You also get access to many other games, so its a win-win situation.
Oh no, I pre-ordered the PC version deluxe for $119.

But it has not been downloaded.

Should I ask for the subscription model (XBOX PC pass) instead since I am not sure which hardware platform I will going with (16" MBP w/ Alienware 27" or Dell PC with dual displays).....

I can tell you that it does not run on a well equipped 2017 iMac using Parallels. I'm getting these three error messages:
1 Can't create DirectX11 Device
2 Can't find appropriate video mode
3 Fatal Error make sure your hardware is supported by this application D3D11Renderer_Z
So far I haven't found a solution.

Maybe under Bootcamp going into the processor more natively it has a chance. I hope someone will report soon.

The XBOX PC Pass gives you the cheapest version. I am going to try that first to see if I like it.

I tried it through game pass on my 2020 iMac with 5500XT and was able to run on medium settings - with buildings and trees on high textures, 1440p with 40-50fps on bootcamp, it's not as beautiful as the trailers but still looks half decent.

Does your machine heat up, I was running the beta on my 2019 iMac 19 and it was just too hot.

What happens if you go down to 1080p? Does it allow you play on higher settings/reduce fan noise/increase fps?

I briefly tried it but found a little pixelated as I sit quite close to monitor, from what I remember it was about 60fps but wasn't on long enough to comment about fans/prolonged performance

That's helpful. I'm considering the new iMac with 5500XT GPU, so to know it can run something like this is both surprising and also gives me confidence about the games I'd normally want to run on the machine (which are nowhere near as intensive graphically).
